KDMC to offer free stroke screenings Dec. 8
ASHLAND -- King's Daughters Medical Center will offer free stroke screenings from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the KDMC Cardiology Clinic, 945 29th St.
The screenings will include total cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, blood oxygen and the Bruits test (a trained medical professional uses a stethoscope to listen to the blood flow in the arteries in the neck to check for possible blockage). Vascular surgeon Dr. Al Addasi will conduct the Bruits tests and discuss overall test results with participants. Fasting is not required but appointments must be made by calling 888-377-5362.
Experts at KDMC said many people are not aware of the signs and symptoms of stroke, and wait too long to seek medical help. Those experiencing warning signs should call 911 immediately.
Stroke signs and symptoms include:
Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg
Sudden change of vision in one or both eyes
Trouble speaking or understanding
Sudden dizziness or balance problems
Sudden, severe headache.
