Here is a list of organizations currently planning holiday-related charity fundraisers:
BROTHERS OF THE WHEEL: The Brothers of the Wheel Motorcycle Club is collecting money in Milton on Saturday, Dec. 5, for its 33rd Annual toy drive, which helps more than 120 children.
FAITH IN ACTION: Faith in Action of the River Cities will present its seventh annual Heritage Holidays Concerts featuring Celtic and Appalachian folk music by the group Blackbirds and Thrushes at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 18 and 19, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, in the Log Cabin Church at Heritage Farm Museum and Village, located at 3300 Harvey Road in Huntington. Proceeds benefit Faith in Action, an interfaith nonprofit organization that provides non-medical assistance to the elderly. Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for children in advance, or $18 and $13 at the door. Seating is limited. More information is available by calling 304-697-1274 or 877-367-1271.
GOLDEN GIRL GROUP HOME: The Golden Girl Group Home, a nonprofit home that houses 24 girls ages 12-18 who have been abused, neglected, and/or have behavioral issues, needs help with its "Christmas Angels" program. To learn more about our Christmas Angel program and how you can help a girl this year, contact Becky Davis at 304-544-7400. The Golden Girl Group Home is a registered charity with the state of West Virginia and has been in existence for over 25 years.
SAVE SECRET SANTA: The new Lawrence County Young Professionals group is trying to restore the Secret Santa program for Lawrence County, which was eliminated by county officials in budget cuts. The Young Professionals need donations and sponsorships to help families. Donations are tax-deductible and can be sent to LEDC Secret Santa" P.O. Box 488 South Point, OH 45680. The organization also needs help with wrapping or distributing gifts, selling T-shirts or other says. JEFFREY E. GEORGE COMFORT HOUSE JOY TREE OF LIGHTS: Joy Tree of Lights and Wall of Remembrance at the Jeffrey E. George Comfort House, 2801 S. Staunton Road. 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3. The Jeffrey George Comfort House will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Joy Tree of Lights. Each light represents at $10 donation to provide lodging for a patient or family who lives at least 50 miles outside of Huntington using any of their seven local hospitals. A tree inside the foyer of the house displays all the names of donors which the lights represent. Also, a Wall of Remembrance will be dedicated, which will honor the late Dr. Jeffrey George and his daughter, Hannah Elizabeth. The Rev. Hubert Harvey of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church will officiate. CRICKET'S KIDS: Fundraisers are planned for Cricket's Kids, a nonprofit organization started by Denise "Cricket" Hudson. Funds go to gifts for children. Donations can be made to the Cricket's Kids bank account and checks can be dropped off at United Bank, 473 Camden Road, Huntington.
Here are some of the upcoming events to raise money for the program:
Purchase a dinner of lasagna, salad and rolls from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at Downstreet, 2349 Adams Ave. in Huntington. Cost if $5.
Chicken and dumplings dinner featuring mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, cole slaw and a roll from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Downstreet. Cost if $5.
Gift wrapping from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, Dec. 16 to 18, at Jefferson Avenue Celebration Church, 17th Street West and Jefferson Avenue.
The kids' Christmas party will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, at Celebration Church.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS STOCKINGS FOR SOLDIERS: Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home, 924 20th St. in Huntington, is offering Christmas stockings for residents to pick up and fill with items for soldiers. The stockings must be returned by Wednesday, Dec. 2. Pick up a stocking or drop off a filled stocking at the funeral home from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. through Dec. 2. For information, call 304-522-7777.
COLONIAL LANES: Colonial Lanes, 626 5th. St. W., is collecting canned food for the Huntington Area Food Bank. For every can of food, you can receive a free game pass.
The bowling alley is also accepting pet supplies for Little Victories. Every pet supply can qualify for a free game pass.

THE GIVING TREE: The Giving Tree, an outreach of Ashland Area Ministerial Association and Boyd County CAReS in Boyd and Greenup Counties, has begun placing trees at local merchants. The program offers presents and a holiday meal for those in need. There are 641 families with 886 children registered for the program this year.
The trees are located throughout Boyd County at the Ashland Town Center Mall (near the food court), Ambiance Salon, The Army Navy Store, Ashland Sporting Goods, Chic-Fil-A, Outback Steakhouse, First Baptist Church, ReMax Realty, Kroger Midtown and Starbucks.

BIRTHRIGHT: Birthright of Huntington is seeking donations of newborn diapers, wipes, sleepers and baby shampoo as well as any new or used maternity clothes. The donations go to layette bags for new moms. To donate, go to the Birthright office at 709 3rd Ave., directly across the street from the Big Sandy Superstore Arena, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and late afternoon until 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. COAT DRIVE: Marshall University's Student Athlete Advisory Committee will team up with the Salvation Army to host a coat drive.
The coat drive will take place in the Cam Henderson Center during the Thundering Herd's men's basketball game against Salem International at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3. Coats donated can be used, but should be in good condition.
Other collection points on Marshall's campus are at the Memorial Student Center and the campus recreation center. Donations also are accepted at The Herald-Dispatch, 946 5th Ave., and the Habitat for Humanty ReStore at 240 3rd Ave.
ASHLAND FAIRFIELD INN by MARRIOTT: The Ashland Fairfield Inn by Marriott is offering free rooms on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Eve as part of the Room in the Inn program. This program offers hotel rooms at no cost to guests coming to visit loved ones in area hospitals, nursing homes and treatment centers on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Eve.
Tharaldson Lodging Company, which operates the Ashland Fairfield Inn by Marriott, began the tradition of the Room in the Inn program in 1988.
GIRL SCOUT TROOP 960: Girl Scout Troop 960 is putting their best hands and feet forward to help the community. Members and volunteers are collecting gloves and socks to be distributed to community shelters to help the less fortunate. Organizer Brandi Wise would like to collect donations the first week of December. Anyone who would like to help out the troop in this community service project should contact Wise at girlscouts960@yahoo.com.
HUNTINGTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA AND CRIDLIN FOOD AND CLOTHING PANTRY: The Huntington Symphony Orchestra and Cridlin Food and Clothing Pantry are kicking off their annual food drive.
In association with the symphony's "Holiday Spectacular" concert on Saturday, Dec. 19, the orchestra is asking the Tri-State to support the community with donations of canned food items. All canned food items should be dropped off at the Huntington Symphony Orchestra office at 763 3rd Ave., Huntington. Anyone who drops off a canned food item will receive a $5 discount on tickets for the Holiday Spectacular concert. Canned food items must be received at the HSO administration offices by Tuesday, Dec. 15, to receive discount.

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES OF THE TRI-STATE: The Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Tri-State are asking for help. On Sunday, Dec. 6, the organization wants to "Light the House that Love Built."
Area residents are invited to sponsor the "Light the House that Love Built" event by donating an amount per light or a gift of their choice. The gift of lights is intended to brighten the holiday season for children and their families who are away from home.
Donations may be made: $1 for one bulb; $20 for a family's one-night stay; $50 for a string of bulbs; $140 for a family's seven-night stay.
Donations may be mailed to Ronald McDonald House, 1500 17th St., Huntington, WV 25701. Information should include the donor's name, address, per light donation or flat donation, and approximate number of lights to be donated.
A holiday open house will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6. Ronald McDonald will light the house at 5:30 p.m.
SALVATION ARMY: More than 1,400 young people and 800 families need help from the Huntington Salvation Army this year. An estimated 1,450 boys and girls from the area need a new coat or toy.
The Salvation Army Angel Trees will be in many of the local department stores and businesses, but the local Salvation Army is also looking for a few more Good Samaritans to place a tree in their businesses or offices.
Each Angel has a boy's or girl's name with clothing sizes, ages and a special toy they want for Christmas. The Salvation Army's numbers jumped about 15 percent over last year.
Anyone interested in helping should call the office at 304-529-2401.
The Salvation Army also needs clubs and organizations to volunteer at Red Kettle sites to ring bells for donations this holiday season.
The Salvation Army and JCPenney also have joined forces to offer online Angel adoptions at http://angel.jcpenney.com.
The Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree online program presented by JCPenney is a national, online program that allows people from across the country to provide children and seniors in need with holiday gifts.
The process for adopting an Angel is very simple. Visit jcp.com/angel to be guided through a short online Angel selection process. After choosing an Angel online, you will receive an e-mail with all of the necessary details to help your Angel. Instructions will include the list of needs and wants of the Angel as well as information regarding where to ship or deliver your gifts to local Salvation Army destinations.
YOUNG PROFESSIONALS COMMITTEE: The Huntington Young Professionals Committee is collecting toys for Toys for Tots. Anyone interested in donating toys may e-mail Elizabeth Ayers at Elizabeth.A.Ayers@wv.gov.
