Woman pleads not guilty

Nov. 20, 2012 @ 12:00 AM

WAYNE -- A Ceredo woman pleaded not guilty Monday to an indictment charging her with murder, according to court officials.

Sara R. Worstell, 21, appeared Monday at arraignment in Wayne Circuit Court. That is where a murder indictment charges her with killing Michael Meachem, 22.

The incident occurred Nov. 27, 2011, at the couple's residence in the first block of Greenwood Drive in Ceredo. The prosecution has said Meachem died from positional asphyxiation. His death is linked to a domestic dispute.

The prosecution also has described Worstell as the leaseholder, but say she had been staying there with Meachem, her daughter and a friend of hers.

Meachem grew up in Proctorville, Ohio, as one of three siblings. He was employed at G.C. Services of Huntington at the time of his death.

The case has been assigned to Wayne Circuit Judge James H. Young Jr. It could go to trial in late February. Evidence in the case was directly presented to a grand jury without magistrate court proceedings.
