Abandoned trailer destroyed by fire

February 07, 2010 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- A fire burned out an abandoned trailer Saturday afternoon off Mobile City Road just south of Lesage.

A crew from Ohio River Road Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene just after 2:30 p.m. and quickly got the fire under control. But thick smoke billowed out the side of the trailer as firefighters sprayed down the floor in spots where flames were still visible.

A man at the scene who did not want to be identified said it hadn't been lived in for the past few years, and the land owner had hired him to clear the lot. He he already cleared out old furniture, which was out in the yard.

But he said there was still some flammable materials inside the trailer, including old carpet matting. He added that when he went to pull the structure down Saturday, he saw the fire and called 911.
