Barboursville students work to aid Haiti

February 08, 2010 @ 10:00 PM

BARBOURSVILLE -- In celebration of their 100th day of the school year on Monday, students at Village of Barboursville Elementary filled a large water jug to overflowing with cash and coins to help in the relief effort in Haiti.

Planned by school administration, students were encouraged to bring in 100 coins of any denomination. Some students brought in 100 pennies or 100 dimes, while others mixed up their donations. Fifth-graders Bethany Koontz, 11, and Amber Stone, 11, helped gather the donated coins and bills from fellow students on Monday.

By the end of the fundraiser, the students gathered a water jug filled with coins and additional rolls of coins and dollar bills.
