Pilot aborts takeoff at W.Va. airport

February 08, 2010 @ 10:40 PM

CHARLESTON -- An airplane that sat on a Charleston runway with two blown tires after an aborted takeoff has been removed.

Yeager Airport spokesman Brian Belcher stays no one was injured in Monday's incident, which caused flight delays for much of the day. He says it was unclear whether the blown tires caused the Delta pilot to abort the flight, or whether they were the result of the aborted takeoff.

Belcher says the plane was carrying 46 passengers and three crew members to Cincinnati. It slid between 300 and 400 feet before coming to a stop about 500 feet from the end of the mountaintop runway. The plane was towed away at about 2 p.m.

It was the second time in less than a month that a pilot has aborted takeoff at Yeager.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating both incidents.
