Eastern Cabell County under boil water advisory

February 11, 2010 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- Residents living along 115 streets in Cabell County are under a boil water advisory until further notice, according to Kelley Gillenwater, spokeswoman for West Virginia American Water.

The alert follows a water main break that drained a tank serving the area. It includes streets in Salt Rock, Ona and Milton.

Company officials described the boil water advisory as "precautionary."

Gillenwater estimates the outage affected 2,400 customers, most of whom are residential. She said crews restored service by noon.

Crews do not know a specific cause for the main break, but Gillenwater said weather likely contributed.

Customers should boil water used for drinking, cooking, bathing and brushing teeth for at least one minute before use.
