Fire rips through Hurricane home
HURRICANE -- Part of Teays Valley Road was closed to traffic Thursday morning as fire gutted a single-story house opposite St. Peter's in the Valley Episcopal Church.
Firetrucks and units from Hurricane, Teays Valley and Culloden volunteer departments responded to the 911 call, along with police and ambulance crews.
Up to 18 volunteer firefighters wearing breathing apparatus helped evacuate the occupants before entering the house and removing cylinders of oxygen from the burning structure.
Meanwhile, police handling the build-up of traffic on W.Va. 34 turned vehicles away from the scene and ambulance crews transported the two elderly occupants of the house to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.
Firefighters said it was too early Thursday to determine the cause of the fire. The residents' names were not released.
