Gasoline prices cheapest in Ceredo
HUNTINGTON -- This Christmas features cheaper gasoline. Huntington's average per-gallon price is $1.30 off last year's mark.
Analysts attribute the decrease to drastic drops in price of oil spurred by a slumping economy and reduced consumption.
Early Tuesday morning the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report placed Huntington's average at $1.706.
That was on par with gasoline prices reported by Speedway. However, the same convenience store chain posted a per-gallon price of $1.57 in Ceredo. That is a 13-cent difference in the seven miles separating Ceredo and Huntington.
The local average as reported by AAA is 6 cents cheaper than the state average of $1.766. West Virginia's average ranked 10th most expensive among the 50 states and the District of Columbia, according to the AAA report.
The report ranked Kentucky's average at 22nd cheapest. Ohio followed at 23rd cheapest. Both averaged approximately $1.62 per gallon.
AAA found the cheapest gasoline in Wyoming at an average of $1.45. Alaska and Hawaii continues to be most expensive. They are the only states posting averages above the $2 mark.
