Local kids experience kindness through giving
HUNTINGTON -- Two kindergarten classes at Altizer Elementary School have started a project to help the animals at Little Victories Animal Rescue.
Martha Roberts and Becky Smith's kindergarten classes will take donations for dog food, cat food, treats and other items for the animals at the rescue shelter.
"We really wanted to do something for the community," Smith said. "We thought this was a great idea."
The project began Feb. 25 and will run for one month. The classes will take the donations to Little Victories once a week.
"Since the children love animals, we thought this was the perfect project to do," Smith said.
Smith said the school receives a publication called "Kind News" that teaches about animals, and the classes have been learning how to take care of their pets and other animals.
"It's just what we're going to call a love gift," Smith said. "We sent notes home to the parents and then started the project. It's a great thing for the kids to experience."
Little Victories is a no-kill animal shelter that works to help save abandoned, abused and homeless animals.
