Huntington city attorney McClure arrested on DUI charge

November 27, 2009 @ 10:50 PM

HUNTINGTON -- Huntington city attorney Scott McClure was arrested late Wednesday on a first-offense, driving-under-the-influence charge.

The arrest occurred about 11:30 p.m. in Huntington, according to a police report.

Officers responded to a single-vehicle accident in the 1300 block of Enslow Boulevard. The man driving the vehicle had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and bloodshot eyes, according to the report. He refused to take field-sobriety tests or a breathalyzer test and was arrested without incident.

McClure requested a blood test and was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital, where one was performed, according to the report. He was arraigned early Thursday and released on bond. The bond amount was unavailable on Friday.

Mayor Kim Wolfe said he is aware of the arrest and expects the case to be treated fairly.

"I understand the officers handled it professionally, just like they would any other arrest," Wolfe said. "I can't say much more because it's a personnel matter, but we're going to handle it like any other case. We're not pre-judging anything. We'll let the system work."

McClure has been the city attorney since January 2005. He previously served as assistant city attorney for six years.

A phone message seeking comment from McClure was not returned.
