Barboursville VFD to test community siren
BARBOURSVILLE -- The Barboursville Volunteer Fire Department will be testing the "community alert siren" at noon Monday, Aug. 4.
The test will last approximately 5 to 6 minutes. The test is to make sure the siren is working in case of a severe storm, which could cause loss of life, rare tornado or a chemical spill in the area in which there would be a shelter in place or an immediate evacuation.
In the event of a real incident, the siren would be activated and residents should consult local news outlets for more information on what to do.
Residents should not call Cabell County 911 or the Barboursville Volunteer Fire Department during this test.

Ohio establishments count down to Keno
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio bars, restaurants, racetracks and bowling alleys are making final preparations to become Keno parlors when the state's new lottery game starts Monday.
Keno resembles bingo, with winnings based on how many correct numbers a player has out of 20 numbers picked. Players will use video terminals connected to the game online, and new numbers will be drawn every four minutes between 11:04 a.m. and 1:44 a.m.
A $1 ticket has the potential to turn into $300,000 in winnings.
At Jimmy V's in Columbus, bar manager Sarah Griffith says patrons are very excited about Keno.
Gov. Ted Strickland backed the game to raise money to close an expected budget gap. He expects the lottery expansion to bring in $73 million during the first year.
