Trailer breaks away from truck, closes lanes of I-64

December 30, 2012 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- No one was injured in a crash that closed the westbound lanes of I-64 for several hours Saturday afternoon.

The accident was reported to Cabell County 911 dispatchers at about 3:50 p.m.

Dispatchers said a trailer carrying a sedan broke away from the pick-up truck hauling it near the 9-mile marker, between the Hal Greer and 5th Street Hill exits.

The trailer tipped over, but the car remained attached to it. Officers on the scene said there was minimal property damage to the vehicles and the equipment. There was no word on exactly what caused the trailer to break away from the truck, but no other vehicles crashed or were struck in the incident.

Westbound traffic was diverted off the Hal Greer exit for more than an hour while crews cleared the scene.

Both westbound lanes were completely open at about 7 p.m.

A second accident was reported in the area just before 4 p.m. as a result of the crash. The incident was a fender-bender which occurred while authorities began re-routing traffic in the area.

No injuries were reported in the second accident.
