Marshall Recreation Center wraps up its winter camps
HUNTINGTON -- The last of several winter youth camps at the Marshall Recreation Center was held Wednesday, as children were able to focus on aerobics or outdoor lessons.
Alex Boyer, assistant director for Youth Programs and Intramurals, said the winter camps provided families with those extra days of child care during a time when they had to work.
He said many of the children who attended had also taken part in previous summer camps and received information through email and the mail about the winter camps.
"Our summer camps are kind of the builder to the winter camps," he said, noting that Wednesday closed out the third year of summer and winter camps.
The camps always try to inject a healthy lifestyle theme, but the day camps tend to have more activities packed in a short period of time. Still, he said kids have fun and leave with a positive message about exercise and nutrition.
The summer camp schedule is still being developed, and Boyer said it will likely be ready in February. Camps will start the week after school is out and continue until the new school year starts.
