Kids make cards for soldiers, nursing homes
ASHLAND -- One group of kids put their own spin on what it means to reach out and touch someone's hand during a special project Tuesday night at two Boyd County Public Library branches.
"Hands That Touch a Heart" is the library's annual campaign to deliver personal, handmade cards to U.S. soldiers serving abroad and residents of local nursing homes.
During the events, which were hosted at the main and Kyova branches of the library, children traced their hands on a card and decorated them before adding their own personal messages.
In 2012, more than 2,000 cards were mailed as a result of the project.
There still is time to participate in the project. Supplies will be available at both branches until Friday, Feb. 8, and outside groups are encouraged to participate.
Teachers or leaders of groups that want to participate should contact Amanda Clark at aclark@thebookplace.org or 606-329-0518, Ext. 1140.
