Healthy Choices Kentucky hosting free symposium
RUSSELL, Ky. -- Healthy Choices Kentucky, a consortium formed as a response to eastern Kentucky's high obesity rates, will host a free health symposium from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital's Bellefonte Pavilion, 2000 Ashland Drive, Russell, Ky.
The symposium is the first public event of Healthy Choices Kentucky, a coalition of 26 area health, fitness and community organizations. The free symposium will include informational booths, guest speakers and hors d'oeuvres.
Event speakers include Drs. Michele Friday and A.K. Khanna, who will present on obesity's effects on heart disease and childhood obesity, respectively.
Information concerning health eating, exercise, cancer risks, women's health, diabetes, sleep disorders, hypertension and heart disease, stroke risk, behavioral health issues, orthopedic problems and more will be available at booths.
Attendees will learn more about Healthy Choice Kentucky, including the coalition's three-year project intended to halt the rise of the Body Mass Index average of Boyd and Greenup counties.
