Huntington Mall hosting several events in January
BARBOURSVILLE -- The Huntington Mall has a series of events coming up in January:
The mall is hosting a Career and College fair Friday, Jan. 18, as part of the "New Year, New You" show. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., vendors will be set up in center court offering information on starting a new career. On Saturday, Jan. 19, the mall will showcase vendors with information on finances, beauty, education, fitness and volunteering.
Also on Jan. 19, the mall will host a "New Faces of the Mall" casting call to select models for upcoming mall fashion shows. The event is being sponsored in part by JCP Portrait Studio and Bow Love Hairbows.
Each contestant will have an opportunity to work the runway for the judges, and a maximum of 21 people in three age groups will be selected to participate in future fashion shows and events at the mall. The age groups are up to 7, 8 to 12, and 13 and older. A "top model" from each age group will receive a prize package. It's an opportunity to learn runway technique and build self confidence and self esteem, according to a release from the mall.
It will be beneficial for the mall to have models of all ages because the mall has stores for people of all ages, said Margi MacDuff, marketing director for the mall.
"It's a great tool to build self esteem," she said. "My kids do it. They've been in shows before and they love it."
The registration fee for the event is a $20 donation to Team Toni, a nonprofit organization raising money to help local cancer patients. Registration goes on from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 19, but registration forms can be picked up earlier at the customer service center.
The Huntington Mall will also have its annual sidewalk sale Thursday, Jan. 17, through Monday, Jan. 21, for the new year, in which customers can save more than 75 percent at participating stores.
