Woman charged with felony embezzlement
HUNTINGTON -- A local woman is facing multiple charges after deputies believe an embezzlement scheme took more than $52,000 from her employer.
Sarah Leighann Brooks-Mayo, 39, was arrested Tuesday. She was initially incarcerated on a $20,100 bond, which she posted to gain her release.
The Cabell County Sheriff's Office filed criminal complaints charging Brooks-Mayo stole $52,719.79 from Jabo Supply, a distributor of pipes, valves and fittings, located in Huntington's 5100 block of Bradley Street.
The money was taken during the course of the defendant's employment with the company, the complaint states.
A company representative told deputies Brooks-Mayo wrote a check to cover the amount stolen and avoid prosecution, however the complaint states that check came from a closed account.
Deputies charged Brooks-Mayo with felony embezzlement and obtaining property in return for a worthless check. She also faces an active, misdemeanor warrant related to a charge of writing a worthless check in August 2010.
