One dead in family dispute
IRONTON -- One man died, and another man was arrested following a domestic altercation Tuesday night.
Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless did not release the identity of the suspect or the victim Tuesday, pending notification of the victim's family. He said the suspect and the victim were related.
Deputies received a call about a domestic dispute at 6:10 p.m. at a home in the 2900 block of Ohio 243 in Ironton, Lawless said. While deputies were en route to the scene, dispatchers received a second call of shots fired in the area, he said.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they discovered an unresponsive man lying in the kitchen with a gunshot wound as well as a second victim who had been assaulted, Lawless said. Lawrence County EMS arrived shortly thereafter and provided aid to the victims. The man with the gunshot wound died on the scene, and the second victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and released Tuesday night, Lawless said.
Witnesses on the scene told deputies the suspect fled the scene and traveled to his mother's home, which also is in Ironton. Deputies found the suspect there, and he was taken into custody.
Lawless said he will release more information Wednesday following an investigation.
