Jewel City Rollergirls team celebrates second anniversary

February 24, 2013 @ 11:01 PM

HUNTINGTON -- Huntington's own women's flat-track roller derby team took center stage Sunday at Skateland in Altizer as the Jewel City Rollergirls celebrated their second anniversary with a live scrimmage and birthday bash.

The team has a roster of more than two dozen women who are preparing for an upcoming season that includes 11 bouts. Its season kicks off with a March 10 scrimmage in Roanoke, Va.

There are no home bouts on Jewel City's schedule because Huntington's two local roller rinks are too small. However, the team practices at 7:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at Skateland.
