Officials: Late-night fire deemed suspicious
HUNTINGTON -- A late night fire in Huntington has been deemed suspicious, according to Huntington Fire Chief Carl Eastham.
Dispatchers received word of the fire about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night in the 800 block of 28th Street.
Eastham said crews found heavy smoke and fire as they arrived. He said flames destroyed much of the house burning off its roof and gutting its interior.
The fire chief described the house as vacant with no utilities. Witnesses had told his office squatters would frequent the building.
No injuries were reported.
The incident remains under investigation.
