School and community help family of flu victim

October 07, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- Efforts are being made among the Cabell Midland High School community to support the family of Patrick M. Wheeler II, who died from the H1N1 virus.

Faculty and staff at the school are preparing a care package to send to the family, according to Jedd Flowers, director of communications at Cabell County Schools.

Wheeler, 14, was a freshman at Cabell Midland. He died from the H1N1 virus on Saturday.

Flowers said the school is thinking about having students make cards for the parents to include in a care package. He said the school also plans to have a plaque created and hung to memorialize Wheeler.

In addition, a memorial fund has been established at Chase Bank to help the family purchase a headstone. Those interested or able to make a donation can do go to any area Chase Bank and tell them you'd like to donate to the Patrick Wheeler Memorial Fund.
