Johnson Memorial presents recital

Jun. 30, 2013 @ 10:50 PM

HUNTINGTON -- Soprano Marlayna Maynard and pianist William A. Murphy presented a recital of art songs and operatic arias Sunday in the sanctuary of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Huntington.

The recital was part of the Music at Johnson Memorial Series.

Featured on the program were the music of Gaetano Donizetti, Claude Debussy, Richard Strauss, Samuel Barber and Leonard Bernstein.

Maynard and Murphy have taught as adjunct music faculty at Marshall University. The recital was Maynard's last in Huntington before she begins studies at the University of Memphis this fall, where she will pursue the doctor of musical arts degree in performance.

Murphy, originally from western Kentucky, recently graduated from Marshall University with a master of arts in performance. In addition to his work at Marshall, he is the organist at St. John's Episcopal Church and the accompanist of the West Virginia Symphony Chorus.

The musical series is free and open to the public. For more information visit online at www.johnsonmemorialumc.com.
