Barboursville house fire claims family pets
HUNTINGTON -- Four dogs died in a house fire along Mount Vernon Circle in Barboursville on Friday afternoon.
The fire at a home in the 1000 block of Mount Vernon Circle was reported to Cabell County 911 dispatchers at 12:47 p.m.
When firefighters with the Barboursville, Ona and Ohio River Road Volunteer fire departments arrived on the scene, they found the fire was contained to the home's kitchen, according to Barboursville Fire Capt. Chad Ward.
He said crews were able to extinguish the fire within 10 minutes, and other areas of the home sustained smoke damage.
Ward said there were five dogs at the family home at the time of the fire, but only one survived the fire.
The cause of the fire appeared to be an electrical short in the kitchen, but Ward said the incident is under investigation.
