HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University students and their families enjoyed pork barbecue sandwiches, chips and cotton candy Friday afternoon in the Memorial Student Center Plaza.

With the sun shining and temperatures in the 70s, it was a great start to Homecoming and family weekend.

Tom and Jane Krolewski drove eight hours from Maryland to see their daughter, Jessica, who is a freshman. It was the first time since they dropped her off in August they were able to give her a hug.

But as they looked over the crowd of people enjoying the free picnic, they said they know she is in good hands.

"We think we made the right choice (for college)," Jane Krolewski said. "And after talking with her, we know we made the right choice."

The fun continues Saturday, Oct. 6, with the Homecoming parade at 11:30 a.m. The parade route starts in the 800 block of 4th Avenue, then proceeds down to 12th Street, then south to 5th Avenue and then east to the football stadium. The game against Tulsa starts at 3:30 p.m.

There also is an alumni tailgating event that starts at 1 p.m. at 18th Street and 5th Avenue. The cost is $25 per person.
