The Cabell County Board of Education voted this afternoon to offer Marshall University $1.8 million for the University Heights Apartments property. The vote came hours after a public hearing held in the Alumni Lounge in the Memorial Student Center, where Superintendent William Smith, Prestera Center executive director Bob Hansen and many Prestera clients and supporters spoke.

Summer Motion schedule

Ashland's annual Summer Motion celebration officially started Saturday with a soap box derby and beauty pageant, but the action really heats up this week.

Most of the shows will be at the Ashland Riverfront and Central Park in the city. For concerts at Central Park, parking is not allowed within Central Park, although plenty of free parking is available on neighboring streets and parking lots. Summer Motion is not responsible for parking violations. For Riverfront shows, free parking is available on all neighboring streets, including Greenup, Winchester and Carter avenues, as well as all intersecting streets. Summer Motion is not responsible for parking violations.

Here's the schedule for the rest of the festivities:

Today (at Riverfront)

8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wings & Wheels Show

5 p.m. Independence Day Parade

8 p.m. Lady Antebellum and Tracy Lawrence followed by a fireworks Show

July 5 (at Central Park)

All day: Live entertainment, petting zoo, worm races, Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital medical screenings, games for children and dental screenings

8 a.m. 10k race

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Car show

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Motorcycle show

10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Craft show

Evening: The Diamonds

July 6 (at Central Park)

All day: Live entertainment, petting zoo, worm races, Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital medical screenings, games for children and dental screenings

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Craft show
