BARBOURSVILLE -- The Movie Gallery in Barboursville is hosting an event today to give the public an opportunity to purchase DVDs for military personnel overseas in need of a little taste of home.

Store manager Adam Blankenship said the event is free and open to the public

The "Don't Forget Our Troops" event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 6005 U.S. 60 East. The event is free to attend.

Blankenship said the store will serve food and refreshments to event goers and will have plenty of activities for kids and adults. Mascots from Shoney's Restaurant and Billy Bob's Wonderland in Barboursville will entertain the kids, and the store will also give kids a chance to play Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 on a big-screen TV.

Adults also have an opportunity to relax, have a hot dog and win a door prize, Blankenship said. The band Rail City will perform for the crowd, and the local Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter will give participants an opportunity, if they're brave enough, to try some karaoke.

The DVDs and video games for sale at the event will be donated to troops serving in Iraq and in the Middle East by the National Guard, he said. Blankenship said they are hosting two specials for the event. Customers who buy two DVDs will receive two for free, and customers who buy two video games will get one for free.

Game prices vary from $7.99 to $39.99, and DVDs vary from $5.99 to $14.99.
