New website aims to link volunteers, organizations
HUNTINGTON -- Matching volunteers with the organizations that need them is the goal of a new tool created by United Way of the River Cities.
United We Volunteer (www.unitedwevolunteer.org) is a Web-based platform intended to connect the right donors, advocates and volunteers with the right opportunities in the region. According to a prepared release, the site can help people find ways to give unused materials and household items to agencies in need, advocate for various causes and volunteer their time.
"There are many formal and informal volunteer efforts that occur on a daily basis in our area," said Laura Gilliam, executive director for United Way of the River Cities. "United We Volunteer provides the perfect way to make those connections."
Formal or informal efforts seeking volunteers can register their need on the website. Individuals who would like to contribute their time, talent and resources can also use the site to survey agencies and needs and register as a volunteer.
Agencies are responsible for vetting the volunteers that they are matched with through the website, according to the prepared release.
Technical support and training will be available to agencies to maximize their potential for recruiting volunteers. For more information, email Gilliam at firstname.lastname@example.org.
