Garbage pickup to start at 6 a.m. on April 1
HUNTINGTON -- The city of Huntington will begin weekly garbage collection one hour earlier, with pick-up beginning at 6 a.m., starting Monday, April 1.
The change is to accommodate a citywide cleanup program that will begin April 3 and run through the end of June, said Lucian Kimler, general superintendent of the city's Public Works Department.
The schedule for the cleanup program has yet to be released. The city will place trash bins in neighborhoods for two weeks at a time, giving residents an opportunity to get rid of old furniture and other bulky items. Sanitation crews will assist with the cleanup efforts in the evenings and on Saturdays, resulting in the need for an earlier start time of weekly garbage pick-up, Kimler said.
