Local cheerleading squad wins big in March
HURRICANE -- One local cheerleading gym spent the month of March bringing back championship trophies to the Tri-State.
The River Cities All Star cheerleading stars competed in two competitions, where the program's Youth Level 2 squad, comprised of cheerleaders between 9- and 11-years-old, won first place in their division.
The Annual International All Star Cheerleading Championship took place March 9 and 10 at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., where more than 375 all star teams competed in divisions based on their team size, grade level and level of skill.
The squad also took home the first place trophy in their division in the American Cheer Power -- Midwest National qualifying competition. During that competition, the squad also earned a bid to The Cheerleading Worlds competition this summer.
The River Cities Gymnastic and Cheerleading gym is located in Hurricane, W.Va, and it is owned by Hank Light.
Squads representing the gym have won at least one Universal Cheerleaders Association National/International competition 13 times since 1995.
