PHILANTHROPIC PANCAKES: Tomorrow morning, Aug. 9, PAWS and SHOP Thrift Store, which is operated by the Putnam County Humane Society will have a Pancake Breakfast at Applebee's in Teays Valley. The sweet breakfast can be enjoyed from 8 to 10 a.m. and will be served by volunteers. Pancakes, sausage and a drink all for five bucks, you can't beat that -- oh, I guess you can, because that five bucks will also help the PCHS assist low-income pet owners sterilize their pets. While the Putnam County Humane Society is not affiliated with county-run Putnam Animal Relief Center, the Society's efforts certainly help reduce the number of animals that wind up at the animal shelter. PAWS and SHOP Thrift Store is located on Putnam Avenue in Hurricane and is open from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Please call 304-562-0300 for more information.
PUTTING FOR PAWS: On Saturday, Aug. 9 starting at 5 p.m. there will be an 18-hole miniature golf fundraiser at Par Four Entertainment Center on U.S. 60 between Hurricane and St. Albans. Entry fee will be $10. All entrants will receive one round of miniature golf, a prize and refreshments after playing. First- and second-place scorers will be invited to the Harris Cup, a national miniature golf tournament!
Proceeds will benefit the Putnam Animal Relief Fund. There is also a huge bin set up at Par Four to accept your donations of pet food and/or cleaning supplies for Putnam Animal Relief Center.
Call 304-722-6393 or e-mail par4@suddenlinkmail.com for more information.
RED HOT: We know we'll all be starting our day with a great breakfast at Applebee's while helping curb the pet overpopulation and end our day at Par Four putting for fun and a new animal shelter, but what will we do with all the time between? This is perfect timing...The award winning Red Hot Show Choir from Hurricane High School is having their annual yard sale tomorrow too! It will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school. There will also be a car wash and concessions, and costumes from previous shows will also be available for sale. These are good kids that work hard on and off the stage; let's show our support. Last-minute question or donation? Call Angie at 304-757-9124.
FREE SHOW: Fire works from your own yard! Remember the Perseid meteor shower Monday night into Tuesday morning, Aug. 11 and 12. Pray, meditate, send pixie dust into the universe; whatever it is you do, please do it for excellent visibility that night.
