Wayne County woman dies of injuries from weekend crash
WAYNE -- Family and friends will remember the life of a 19-year-old woman this weekend in Wayne County.
Karri Shalain Adkins, 19, of Wayne died Wednesday from injuries sustained in vehicle accident on Oct. 25. Visitation is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home. The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3. Burial will follow at Adkins-Bradshaw Cemetery.
Adkins' aunt, Tammy Pelfrey, said her niece was an "all-around good kid" who would have turned 20 years old in March. She was a sophomore at Marshall University and graduated from Wayne High School.
"She was pursuing a career in English. She wanted to be an English teacher," Pelfrey said. "She was always really, really smart. I don't think there was ever a time that she didn't make the Honor Roll."
Pelfrey said the Adkins family needs support, and donations to help cover the funeral expenses are appreciated.
Information about donations is available by calling the funeral home at 304-272-5107.
Adkins was one of three occupants in the single-vehicle accident that occurred late in the afternoon on Oct. 25 along Little Lynn Creek Road.
Wayne County Sheriff's deputies said the vehicle left the roadway, traveled through a yard, across a driveway and struck a utility pole. It then struck a mobile home.
Adkins and Amber Finley, 18, of East Lynn were passengers. Finley was transported from the scene and received treatment at a local hospital.
The driver was Willard Cyphers, 18, of East Lynn. He refused medical treatment, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Chief Deputy David Watts said the accident remains under investigation.
