Salt Rock library expands offerings with new space
SALT ROCK -- Book lovers are sure to love the new Salt Rock Branch Library with its increased space, books and Internet capabilities, according to library personnel.
After being cramped in the Salt Rock Elementary School for years, all library materials have been moved to the new facility across the street at 5575 Madison Creek Rd. in Salt Rock. The new facility features a number of improvements and accommodations that were not previously available, due to space limitations.
Branch Manager Kim Wolfe said the new facility, which houses more than 20,000 items including books, magazines, and DVDs, is four times the size of the elementary school facility.
Additions to the new facility include four more computers with Internet access (bringing the total to six), a local history and genealogy book section, Wi-Fi capability and an outdoor reading room. Another major improvement over the old facility is a 50-person meeting room and small kitchen available for group rentals.
Wolfe said additions included in the new library will enable them to serve the public better and offer a broader range of activities.
With the new and increased space, Wolfe said there will be more library programs, events and activities that appeal to people in every age group. Activities to be implemented in the future include adult reading groups, monthly family movie night, craft groups and a hunting safety course.
To accommodate more people at the library, a larger parking lot was constructed to hold more than 30 vehicles. The branch also extended their operating hours from just 20 hours a week, to 44 hours a week, Wolfe said.
The Salt Rock Branch is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. The facility is closed on weekends.
The grand opening ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the library in Salt Rock. For more information on the Salt Rock Branch Library, go online to cabell.lib.wv.us.
