Classical guitar recital planned
HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University graduate student Rodrigo Almeida will perform a recital of classical guitar music at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 31, at Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, 5th Avenue at 10th Street in downtown Huntington.
Almeida's program will include works of Mauro Giuliani, Dionisio Aguado, Domenico Scarlatti, Jorge Morel, Radames Gnatalli, Egberto Gismonti, Joaquim Rodrigo and Emilio Pujol, according to a news release.
Almeida was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and studied keyboard as a child. At age 17, he began classical guitar studies and received a bachelor's degree from Carlos Gomes Music College, Sao Paulo. He also is a graduate of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University and now studies in the Marshall master's degree program in guitar performance with Dr. Julio Alves. He also performs with the MU guitar ensemble.
The concert is free, although free-will donations will be accepted to help support "Music at Johnson Memorial."
