Fresh fruit, exercise part of Kids in the Kitchen event

November 08, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- The Junior League of Huntington held a Kids in the Kitchen event Saturday at Beverly Hills United Methodist Church.

The free event drew about 25 children, who learned how to make fresh fruit salsa and got a little exercise lesson.

The children and their parents also were given nutritional information before the exercise activity and preparation of the healthy snack.

Kids in the Kitchen was launched in 2006 by Junior Leagues in more than 225 communities in four countries. One of the goals is to empower youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity.

At a Kids in the Kitchen event in late September at which about 60 attended, kids made whole-wheat hummus, a fresh fruit salsa and an orange smoothie.
