ASHLAND -- Three people were arrested on heroin charges Thursday evening, according to a press release issued by the Boyd County Sheriff's Office. The arrests stemmed from an undercover drug buy in the 1200 block of Winchester Avenue in Ashland.

Those arrested were Herbert G. Orr, 42, Josh M. Smith, 33, and Alana D. M. Greene, 21, all of Portsmouth, Ohio, the release states. They were arrested at 8:25 p.m. Thursday and held at the Boyd County Detention Center.

The release states one of three vehicle occupants sold 3 grams of heroin to an undercover deputy. The seller then returned to his vehicle. Uniformed deputies promptly pulled over the vehicle after it exited a parking lot and attempted to cross a bridge leaving Kentucky. Deputies located several syringes, narcotics and cash in the vehicle.

Orr was charged with first-degree heroin trafficking. Smith and Greene were charged with first-degree complicity to traffic a controlled substance. All three face charges of possessing drug paraphernalia, according to the release.

Deputies received assistance from the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Kentucky State Police.
