Goodwill to receive two grants for job training

August 29, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- Goodwill Industries of KYOWVA Area is receiving two rehabilitation grants totaling more than $300,000.

"This funding will enable us to further the training opportunities for which Goodwill is known. Providing training to workers in the new green economy puts us on the cutting edge of workforce development," said Kimberly B. Lewis, executive director.

Goodwill was notified of the grants by the West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services.

The first grant for $251,281 will expand programs and services for individuals with disabilities in what are known as green jobs. Specifically, individuals will be trained at Goodwill's 525 19th St. W. Recycling and Document Destruction Center. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 made that grant possible.

A second grant for $53,949 will provide job coaching and job development services to people with disabilities.

Both grants will serve people in Cabell, Wayne, Mason, Mingo and Lincoln counties.
