W.Va. to receive funds for training programs
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- West Virginia will receive significant funding for health, safety, education and training programs following the signing for the Fiscal Year 2010 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations bill passed by the U.S. House and Senate.
The bill was part of an Omnibus Appropriations bill that combined six of the 12 annual federal spending appropriations measures.
The following local projects and programs will receive funding :
Telehealth Program: $8.2 million for the telehealth program, which will provide the medical schools at both Marshall and West Virginia universities with the opportunity to continue to receive grant funding to operate telehealth programs in rural West Virginia.
American Federation for the Blind's Technology and Employment Center: $1 million for the AFB's Technology and Employment Center in Huntington, to expand the capacity of the center for development of technology that will help to improve lives and employment opportunities for the visually impaired.
Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., made the announcement of the funding approval on Monday.
