Upcoming races moved to Barboursville Park

January 11, 2010 @ 12:15 AM

HUNTINGTON -- The WV 5K Race Committee has changed the location of two upcoming races to Barboursville Park.

This includes the five-mile race at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, and a 10K race at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28.

"After meeting with various members of the WV 5K Race Committee, the topic of course security came up many times," said Pat Riley, winter series race director "The major concern with racing in Downtown Huntington at 2 p.m. was ensuring that all of the participants have a safe course to race on."

Riley said the course provides some variety and a safe running environment, without closing city streets.

"The wonderful layout of the Barboursville Park will allow us to provide a different race course that is both fast and challenging," added series committee member Tom Plummer.

The Village of Barboursville paved the soccer road, and these races will be the first ones to use the roads.

This race is the second of three of the Winter Series races. Individual awards for each race will be handed out with overall series awards handed out after the 10K race Feb. 28. Series awards will be based on total time from the three races.
