Fire damages Huntington house

January 20, 2010 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- A couple on vacation received a disheartening call Tuesday night after their home in the 500 block of West 26th Street in Huntington suffered major damage from a fire.

Cabell County 911 dispatchers reported multiple calls had come in at 8:10 p.m. from people reporting flames coming from the single-story house on a dead-end street.

Initial calls indicated that an elderly relative might be staying in the house, but firefighters with the Huntington Fire Department quickly cleared the house.

Chief Creig Moore said the fire was ablaze in more than one location when crews arrived on scene. The cause is under investigation.

A home in West Huntington suffered major fire, water and smoke damage in blaze Tuesday night, Jan. 19.
