HUNTINGTON -- As part of its 2010 "Realtors in Your Community" service initiative, the Huntington Board of Realtors is seeking food and supplies for Haiti earthquake survivors.

In conjunction with the Huntington Board of Realtors 2010 Real Estate Fair, the board is collecting donations for Haiti from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 23, in front of the Big Sandy Superstore Arena in Huntington. There will be a vehicle provided by State Electric Supply parked outside the arena where anyone can drop off bottled water, non-expired canned goods or other needed items. Volunteers will be on hand to help lift or carry any large or heavy items.

The board is working with Buffalo Valley Missionary Baptist in the project, said 2010 board President Jeff Maddox. Donations will be stored at the church until they are transported to DirectLine Ministry for shipment to Haiti.

For those who are interested, financial donations can be made to DirectLine Ministry to assist with the cost of shipping the goods to Haiti. Those who are unable to donate on the day of the Real Estate Fair are encouraged to drop off donations at their nearest Realtor office before Feb. 26.

Donations needed include the following:

Shelf-stable food in cans, bags or plastic containers that will keep at high temperatures prior to opening,

Canned meat, canned corn, canned beans, canned tomatoes, spaghetti and macaroni noodles, oatmeal, peanut butter, powdered milk, dried beans, rice in bags, sugar, flour, cooking oil, powdered laundry detergent, bathroom tissue, baby food and formula, diapers and baby wipes, hygiene items, medical supplies, over-the-counter pain relievers and fever reducers, antibiotic cream, antifungal cream, new blankets, tents of any size, disposable plates, cups, bowls and containers, school supplies, heavy pots and pans without plastic handles, new mattresses and hand sanitizer.
