Fort Gay school opening delayed
FORT GAY -- School starts Thursday, Aug. 8, in Wayne County, but it will be delayed a week for the community of Fort Gay.
The new Fort Gay Pre-K-8 will open Thursday, Aug. 15, said Superintendent Lynn Hurt. She said they had hoped to start on Aug. 12, but received word that all the new furniture was being delivered in five tractor-trailers that day.
Waiting until Aug. 15, she said, will allow for the furniture to be unloaded and placed in classrooms.
However, teachers and staff will be on site to enroll new students and prepare for the upcoming school year.
The new school, which cost about $20 million, is an L-shaped facility that has a two-story academic wing for Pre-K through fifth grades on the first floor and sixth through eighth grades on the second floor. The high-school sized gymnasium is in the center, with the library and cafeteria to the right of the gym.
The new school is located at 1 Viking Drive, Fort Gay. The phone number is 304-648-5404.
