Support wire break caused outage

March 20, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- American Electric Power blamed a guy wire for causing a power outage that affected more than 1,700 people Thursday morning.

AEP spokesman Phil Moye said a utility pole's support guy wire broke Thursday. The break caused the line to snap up into the energized line. That cut power to the customer base. Moye described the incident as rare occurrence.

Classes at Beverly Hills Middle School and Our Lady of Fatima were affected.
