Cox Landing Elementary dedicates tree, playground in memory of Childers

LESAGE -- Students and staff at Cox Landing Elementary School joined with people from the community to dedicate a tree and playground in memory of 5-year-old Preston Childers on Thursday morning.

Childers died in a trailer fire near Lesage on Dec. 11, 2008.

During the ceremony, students thanked the Ohio River Road Firefighters after the Daisy Girl Scouts, staff and faculty of Cox Landing Elementary School dedicated the tree and playground.

Principal Laura Cooper and Pastor Jamie Jefferson also spoke at the event.

Cox Landing has more than 200 students, 30 staff, parent partners and volunteers and serves students in Pre-K through fifth grades.
