Get Healthy Tri-State: Hospitals to offer smoking cessation programs
ASHLAND, Ky. -- Area hospitals are offering residents the chance to quit smoking.
Two free smoking cessation programs begin this month at King's Daughters Medical Center and Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
KDMC is offering a one-hour-a-week, 20-week program with three start-time opportunities: 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21; 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21; or noon Wednesday, April 22.
The KDMC program uses tobacco cessation products, behavior modification and group support and is medically supervised by oncologist Dr. David Goebel. The classes are free, but participants are responsible for purchasing tobacco cessation products (patches, lozenges and/or gum or Chantix). Class participants also receive access to the Ashland Area YMCA while enrolled.
All sessions take place at the KDMC Health Education Center. Registration is preferred by calling 606-408-6400 or 606-408-4147.
Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital also invites anyone wishing to stop smoking to join its free smoking cessation program. A new session begins at 6 p.m. Monday, April 20, at the OLBH Human Motion Vitality Center conference room.
The 12-week program utilizes the Cooper-Clayton method to help participants become non-smokers. Sessions meet Mondays at 6 p.m. in the OLBH Human Motion Vitality Center and are free except for the cost of nicotine replacement or Zyban. Family, friends or other members of an individual's support system are welcome to attend.
For more information on the OLBH program or to register, call 606-833-2273.
