April 15, 2009 @ 10:00 PM

To honor your mom, you could buy flowers, candy or gifts for Mother's Day. Or you could share your mother's wisdom with the Tri-State.

The Herald-Dispatch wants your photos and stories of lessons learned from good old mom. Some stories and photos will run in the May 13 edition of The Herald-Dispatch. Those that don't run in the newspaper will be included at www.herald-dispatch.com.

Stories should include the best things or advice you learned from you mother. It can be a simple as "always carry an umbrella" or as complex as good parental advice. Stories can be up to 50 words.

Photos should include identifications for all of the people featured in the photo.

Please submit all material to Features Editor Robyn Rison via e-mail at rrison@herald-dispatch.com. Please use "mom" in the subject line. The deadline for submission is May 9.

This photo was printed in The Herald-Dispatch on Sept. 3, 1974. Elizabeth Hash Lopina and her mother, Mary Jo Thompson (then Hash), were in front of Cammack Elementary School and had just dropped off Elizabeth's brother, Jay, for his first day of school. Elizabeth was 4 at the time and attending St. Paul's Preschool. "I treasure this photo of me and my mom," Elizabeth says. "It reminds me of the happy childhood I had while growing up in Huntington and the fond memories of the time we lived there. Though I live in North Carolina now, I try to keep up with what goes on there by reading The Herald-Dispatch online."
