Italian Society to host its quarterly meeting
HUNTINGTON -- The Italian Society of the Tri-State (ISTRI) begins its second year of operation with its first quarterly meeting at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 13.
The ISTRI mission is to "preserve, foster and celebrate Italian and Italian-American culture and heritage."
"You don't have to be an Italian to be Italian, because it is the spirit that counts," said local restaurateur Rocco Muriale.
Service area for ISTRI is the Tri-State counties of Cabell, Mason, Putnam and Wayne in West Virginia, Boyd in Kentucky, and Lawrence in Ohio.
The meeting will be at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1429 6th Ave., Huntington. A potluck dinner starts at 6:30 p.m.
A one-hour business meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will feature a presentation by Ralph Rossi and Lou Capaldini entitled, "Bocce, Forward We Go!"
Bocce has been described as the forerunner of bowling. Speakers at the meeting will discuss the progress made in plans for constructing tournament-grade public bocce courts in the Tri-State area. Bocce enthusiasts say benefits include health, recreation and tourism
For any ISTRI questions or information, call Ruth Kirkland at 304-522-1899 or Lou Capaldini at 304-733-2515.
