Local veterans group hosts party at Veterans Home
BARBOURSVILLE -- Dozens of people decked the halls of the West Virginia Veterans Home with Christmas spirit Tuesday evening during a party at the residence, sponsored by the Tri-State Chapter 949 of Vietnam Veterans of America.
There are a few parties at the home each year, and Tuesday's event did not disappoint with guests including Medal of Honor recipient Hershel "Woody" Williams and a performance from Philip Dain Powell, who has performed at countless veterans homes, bases and events since releasing the song, "Save Me a Place at the Table," in 1993.
The Vietnam Veterans of America host several veterans support events throughout the Tri-State each year, keeping in line with the group's mission to "assist all veterans and their families through advocacy, education and awareness to assure 'never again will one generation of veterans abandon another.'"
