ASHLAND -- Boyd County voters finally will get their say in the often contentious presidential primary when they go to the polls today in Kentucky.

Secretary of State Trey Grayson is predicting a 25 percent turnout statewide for today's primary election. Boyd County Clerk Debbie Jones is predicting a lower turnout here.

The polls are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. today in the county's 47 precincts. Anyone having a problem can call the clerk's office at (606) 739-6116.

In addition to the presidential primary, voters will vote on a U.S. Senate race and Republicans will vote on a 4th district Congressional race. Both U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell and U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis are seeking re-election.

Meanwhile, Kevin Sinnette, Ashland's assistant corporation counsel, faces Bobby Jack Woods in the Democratic primary for the 100th district state representative seat. Mike Stewart, a Republican, is unopposed in the primary.

There's also an Ashland mayoral primary and 10 candidates are on the ballot seeking two-year terms on the Ashland Board of City Commissioners. The top two candidates in the mayor's race and eight candidates in the city commissioner's race will advance to the general election this fall.
