Inmate dies from apparent suicide

February 20, 2013 @ 10:51 PM

BARBOURSVILLE -- An inmate at the Western Regional Jail has died from an apparent suicide, according to a spokeswoman from the state Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority.

The inmate was identified as Courtney Powell-Dillon, 29, according to court documents and the agency's release. The court documents listed her with addresses in Catlettsburg, Ky., and Proctorville, Ohio.

Staff members found Powell on Monday hanging in her cell. She died Tuesday at an area hospital, the release states. Powell had been detained at the facility since Nov. 18, 2012.

A September 2012 indictment in Cabell County charged Powell with five counts of obtaining money by false pretenses, two counts of forgery and grand larceny.

Powell had been scheduled to appear at a status conference next week as she awaited trial.
